New Children’s Hospital Construction

Take a Look at What’s New for Kids!

In February 2005, construction began on a new Children’s Hospital at Saint Francis. The new 104-bed Children’s Hospital, scheduled for completion in spring 2008, will be located on the north side of the existing hospital. It will provide greater medical/surgical capabilities, pediatric intensive care services as well as outpatient and inpatient infusion therapies for children. A new parking garage will also be constructed to support the new facility.

Features and Benefits of the new Children's Hospital:
  • More convenient access to major pediatric services
  • All private patient rooms vs. semi-private rooms
  • Larger patient rooms so that parents can comfortably stay with their children. Parent and family education to aid in understanding of illness or injury. Child life specialists on staff to help children become more at ease during their hospital stay. All enhance the family centered environment.
  • Specialized units for General Pediatrics, Oncology/Hematology, Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Intensive Care and Pediatric Cardiology.
  • Three (3) Parent Rooms adjacent to Pediatric Intensive Care Unit provided for families to stay on-site as needed.
  • Services including X-ray, CT scan, Pharmacy and Child Life Department on site as well as other ancillary medical and support services.
  • 14 pediatric recovery suites for post-surgical care
  • New Children’s Hospital Emergency pod adjacent to the Trauma Emergency Center.
  • New parking facility to accommodate new location and patient access.
  • The new facility increases potential for recruiting more pediatric physicians and specialists to the area.
  • A child-friendly environment that fosters a child-sensitive approach that recognizes the special psycho-social, developmental and physical needs of the child.
  • A staff that places a strong emphasis on Family-centered care. This approach is characterized by a collaborative effort between the hospital staff and family to provide care and decision-making for the young patient.
  • The new Children’s Hospital at Saint Francis will remain a “hospital within a hospital” with access to surgical services, the Trauma Emergency Center, Eastern Oklahoma Perinatal Center (EOPC), and other ancillary services provided by Saint Francis Hospital.
